TrawlerFest “People’s Choice” Award to Selene 53
At PassageMaker Magazine’s June 2008 TrawlerFest in Greenport, NY, the Selene 53 “Peddler III” was selected by vote of nearly 1,000 attendees as the “People’s Choice” for the best yacht presented in the 4-day event.
This is truly an honor and a credit to the design, construction, systems, and finish of the Selene 53. It is also a credit to Peddler III’s owners, Carole and Joe Sarnowski, who have decorated, equipped, and commissioned their yacht in an elegant yet practical fashion appropriate to their Canada-to-Bahamas cruising plans, which include frequent visits from family and friends.
There were many other well-known and worthy yachts presented. Yet by all measures of technical, quality, design, and value the Selene 53 stood out above all – again!
What makes this an extraordinary honor is that it is the second “People’s Choice” award for a Selene 53 presented by Selene Annapolis at a TrawlerFest in just the last 9 months. The Selene 53 “Wianno” won the same “Peoples’ Choice” award at the September, 2007 TrawlerFest in Solomons, Maryland. Never before has the same model of any builder’s trawler won twice.
Knowledgeable yachtsmen have purchased nearly 120 Selene 53/55s over the last six years. The 100th is about to be shipped. This is a very rare milestone in any shipbuilder’s experience, and a continuing recognition of Jet Tern’s line of Selene Ocean Trawlers. Since its founding ten years ago, Jet Tern has built and shipped nearly 250 Selene trawlers ranging in size from 36’ to 66’. Two Selene 75's are under construction and will be shipped in 2009. This success can be attributed to the innovative design, continuous investment in feature and quality improvements, and the support of the manufacturer and the dealers that are the hallmark of all Selenes.
A beautiful Tiffany crystal bowl, elegantly inscribed with the “People’s Choice” recognition was presented to Selene Annapolis Yachts’ Andrea and Chuck Wistar by Natalie Friton, Managing Editor of PassageMaker Magazine. Five other Selene owners were in attendance at the awards ceremony. Peddler III’s owners were subsequently presented the award when they returned to their yacht during the final day of TrawlerFest.
The inscribed bowl has been shipped to Howard Chen at Jet Tern Marine in Dongguan for display in a place of honor at the shipyard where she was built. It will be a source of pride and recognition also for the all the shipyard management and workers including the FRP shop, carpenters, electricians, mechanics, supervisors, and project managers.
